BSD Judaism on workers’ rights. Can a worker quit his or her job in the middle of the workday with (seemingly) no justifiable reason? Does it make a difference whether they are paid per hour or are freelancers?
*At the end of Vayikra (Leviticus) the Torah says: “For the children of Israel shall be my slaves”.
*The Talmud infers from that verse that one Jew shall not be enslaved by another, but should only be subservient to God Himself.
*Practically, that means that a worker may be able to quit his job and not be subjugated to an employer, even if the work conditions are otherwise fair. There are, however, many details and conditions to the application of this law (as with any other law…)
