BSD Yeshiva boys don’t serve in the army. Why? The Talmud tells us that the best protection against enemies is the study of the Holy Torah, and those who dedicate their lives to its study are exempt from security-taxes (i.e. paying for a protective wall, guards etc.).
By the same token, they should be exempt from army service. (there are other reasons as well, but they are not discussed in this shiur). 2) Does Judaism believe in respecting the laws of a secular government? In many cases it does, as long as… (watch till the end!)
