Sleepless Nights
As we know, Shavuos is the time that we celebrate receiving the Torah. The luchos habris were the physical expression of our bond with Hashem. However, that original article of our connection was destroyed by Moshe Rabbeinu shortly thereafter. It took us a few months to receive a second set. The Shelah HaKaddosh (Rabbi Yeshayahu [...]
Non-Sense
There are two interesting questions about the Yom Tov of Shavuos that set it apart from the other Yomim Tovim. First, there is no particular mitzvah or commandment to be done on this Yom Tov (unlike Rosh Hashanah which has Shofar, Pesach which has Matzah, or Sukkos which has Sukkah and arba minim). Second, the [...]
Double Up
Rabbi Yitzchak said, "Every engagement of the Sabbath is doubled." The omer offering is doubled (Leviticus 23:16), [combining] the two omer offerings into one. Its sacrifice is doubled (Numbers 28:9), with two lambs offered on the Sabbath day. Its punishment is doubled (Exodus 31:14), one who violates it shall surely be put to death. Its [...]

Build On It
Thus said the LORD of Hosts: If you walk in My paths and keep My charge, you in turn will rule My House and guard My courts, and I will permit you to move about among these attendants. (Zacharia 3:7) As we prepare for Shavuos and think about the situation when klal Yisrael encamped while [...]
